Thanks to everyone who participated in OLAC 2010. I enjoyed meeting all of you.

All attendees should have received an email with a link to the conference survey. Please consider completing it, and being honest about your experience.

Of course, I will be happy to share the results, especially with anyone who is considering hosting OLAC 2012.

Friday evening reception

We are pleased that catering for Friday night’s reception (which will be held at the Federated Garden Clubs of Macon headquarters) will be by Harpin’s. They don’t have a website, but they do have a Facebook page:

Volunteers needed

Some volunteer needs are best met by people who aren’t attending the conference. However, there are a few places where OLACers can assist without missing out. (Most times are approximate, depending on traffic.)

Registration: Thursday 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Friday 7:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.

Reception: Friday, 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Poster sessions: Saturday, 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.

Shuttle bus communications: Sunday morning and early afternoon

The Marriott is next door to a hospital (Coliseum Medical Centers); the Medical Center of Central Georgia is a short drive across the Ocmulgee River.

I’m still looking for a nearby optician that’s open on Saturday.

Where to have dinner

I’ve listed chain restaurants if there’s a good reason for including them.

A survey of my Mercer coworkers indicated that the best restaurants for vegetarians are: Lemongrass, Dolce Vita, Metropolis, La Parilla, Papoulis, Margarita’s, and Ingleside Village Pizza.

As everyone who has to dine gluten-free knows, chains are usually easier [although smaller restaurants are often helpful if you contact them ahead of time], so consider: Longhorn Steak House, Bonefish Grill, Chili’s, Carrabba’s Outback Steak House, and Sonny’s BBQ.

2009 OLAC research award winners Kevin Furniss, of Tulane University, and Morag Boyd, of Ohio State, will present “Describing Reproductions: A Series of Decisions” as a breakout session.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer a breakout session on Graphic materials; however, we are excited that Susan Wynne, of the University of Wyoming, will be leading a session on Oral histories instead.
